Laptop features on a tablet Pretty much from the moment it was unboxed, the review unit from Verizon Wireless drew attention. It’s big. The Samsung Galaxy Note Pro’s touchscreen spans 12.2-inches. That substantially eclipses Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad and the available 10-inch offerings powered by Android or Windows. The display is bright and offers generously wide viewing angles.
Samsung has taken advantage of the larger screen to offer an on-screen keyboard designed toward 10-finger typing which is more akin to a laptop than typical tablet input. For instance, there is a control key so CTRL-C to copy text and CTRL-V to paste is possible. Some still may prefer the tactile feel of a portable Bluetooth keyboard, but it’s by far the the most laptop-like experience on glass.
Split screen multitasking allows up to four apps to run on the screen at once though you’ll notice the load slightly in terms of performance.
As a tablet The Galaxy Note Pro is large. While this gives you a lovely 12.2-inch display, it also means you have a larger device to handle. It’s hardly unwieldy, but inches make a big difference in how a device feels in your hands an extended period of time.
The included S Pen stylus brings a lot of features to the tablet like Air Command shortcuts and handwriting recognition.
Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Note Pro comes with 32GB of on-board storage, but it supports up to a 64GB microSD card which is not included.
Should you get it? While the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro is an evolutionary step toward replacing the traditional computer workstation, it’s more for those who already have a desktop or a laptop they’d like to leave behind at times.
Starting at $749.99 at Verizon Wireless, the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro is not exactly inexpensive. The price might dissuade more recreational tablet users looking for a relatively cheap way to consume digital media. On the other hand, those who find 10-inch tablets too dainty, or just have trouble living with typical on-screen keyboards will a have hard time finding a comparable tablet currently on the market.
