Gionee rolls out Android 4.4 KitKat update for Elife S5.5 in India

In May, Gionee had launched the Elife S5.5 in the Indian market, calling it the world’s slimmest smartphone. Now within two month of launching the phone, the company has released Android KitKat update for the S5.5.

The hefty 865.71MB file is available as an OTA update and can be accessed under Setting > System Updates. Along with all the goodies that come with KitKat, the update also adds a new desktop layout and Du speed booster for faster operations. Gionee has also updated the Amigo Paper as well as GameZone with new user interface.

With the new update, S5.5 users can also expect improved GioneeXender for optimised performance and enhances UC browser and NQ Mobile Security experience.

Priced at Rs 22,999, the Gionee S5.5 was launched running 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The Elife S5.5 isn’t just about ultra-portability, but has premium specs as well. It packs in a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, one of the first to be featured on a non-Samsung phone. Performance should be top-notch considering the octa-core 1.7 GHz processor, in keeping with the octa-core trend of today.

On the camera front, the device gets a 13-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Just like all other Gionee phones, it runs on company’s Amigo OS, a heavily-skinned version of Android, which adds some interesting shortcuts and home screens, in addition to the standard Android screens. Finally, the phone is powered by a 2300mAh battery.

The smartphone supports 3G network working in six different bands and the company also plans to churn out an LTE version of the device.
