GTA V': 1080p For PlayStation 4 Confirmed, No Word On Xbox One

Rockstar Games has already revealed some significant details about Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but has continued to hold others back, including the resolution and frame rate. That question for GTA V appears to have been answered with the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM).

The majority of the OPM article on GTA V covers details that are already known. The resolution and framerate reveal is new though, and confirms what many already expected for the PlayStation 4.

“Farewell 720p,” the GTA V preview article in OPM states. “You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging over 1080p’s pin-sharp pleasure and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920 x 1080 pixels.”

This is not an official statement from Rockstar, so I don’t know if I would consider it 100 percent confirmed yet. The full HD resolution for GTA V is definitely highly likely though, given the ease at which the PlayStation 4 has handled 1080p for other open-world titles like inFamous: Second Son. Thirty fps also appears to be assured, as open-world games are proving too taxing for 60 fps.

That still leaves open the question of the Xbox One resolution, however. Microsoft’s resolution troubles have been documented to death already, but we weren’t going to get an answer to that from a PlayStation magazine to begin with. Microsoft hasn’t been afraid to send in its own team of experts to bring the resolution to the same level as its competition as Diablo III proved. You can bet that the company will do the same if necessary for a high profile title like GTA V.

The rest of the OPM preview covers GTA V details for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that were already announced.

Don’t forget that your existing GTA V progress and GTA Online characters can be transferred over to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions. The next-gen console versions are coming November 18 followed by the PC version on Jan. 27. Rockstar did explain the reason behind the delay
