BlackBerry updates BBM with iOS 8 redesign, iPhone 6 support and more features

BlackBerry Messenger aka BBM for iOS has just received its anticipated major update, which was announced by BlackBerry just over a couple of weeks ago.

First up, the update allows users to set timed messages to last longer. Instead of up to 15 seconds only, they can now be set to last up to 60 seconds. In addition, timed messages can now be viewed multiple times until their respective timers expire. Support for Snapchat-like timed messages has been available in BBM since their introduction alongside message retraction late last October.

The latest update to BBM also adds support for sending stickers in group chats and delivers the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

What's more, BBM has been updated with a new design that looks more at home on iOS 7 or iOS 8 and with full resolution support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. “You can’t help but notice the sleek and modern design updates like a flat UI and attractive transparencies,” BlackBerry says. “These adjustments make BBM look sharp across supported Apple devices.”

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, BBM is available on the App Store for free.

Note that the app's timed messaging and message retraction capabilities are premium features that are available for free and without limitations only through the end of January. Thereafter, they will be available as part of a yet to be fully outlined BBM subscription.
