Official: The OnePlus 2 will sport a USB Type C connector with “exclusive” improvements

Last week OnePlus began its journey towards the release of its second flagship phone and confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be equipped with an “optimized” Snapdragon 810 SoC. The company will continue to reveal small bits of information surrounding the OnePlus 2 throughout the following weeks, and the latest piece of the puzzle fell into place earlier today when Carl Pei revealed on the official forums that the second flagship killer will sport a USB Type C connector. To make matters even more interesting, Carl added that they’ve made further improvements on top of the USB Type C standard, and that these patented features will be exclusive to OnePlus.
OnePlus 2 with USB Type C
More and more manufacturers continue to adopt the USB Type C standard for their top-tier products, be it smartphones or tablets, and sure enough OnePlus will be doing the same. In fact according to Carl Pei, the OnePlus 2 will be the “first global flagship smartphone” to adopt this technology.

USB Type C is a reversible connector that replaces / combines both microUSB and full-size USB into a single standard. It can also replace various specialized video ports and can transfer data at speeds of up to 10 Gbps. Needless to say USB Type C is an impressive piece of technology, but because OnePlus seems to remain true to the “Never Settle” motto, Carl Pei added that they’ve also made improvements of their own on top of the USB Type C standard. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to reveal what exactly was improved, but whatever extra features will be added they will apparently be exclusive to OnePlus.
Carl Pei further revealed that while the OnePlus One was designed to be on par with whatever the high-end market had / has to offer, the OnePlus 2 will push the limits further and provide an “amazing user experience” that won’t be easily matched. The competition, according to Carl, will not only try to get on par with the OnePlus 2 this fall, but “throughout 2016 and beyond” as well.
For now and until OnePlus reveals more details, what you think of the inclusion of a USB Type C connector in the company’s upcoming flagship killer?
