How To Connect and Use Bluetooth Headphones With The Apple TV 4Gen.

This means you can crank up to the volume while you watch movies, listen to tunes or blow up aliens, without worrying about noise complaints. If you want to go to the other extreme, you can use the same method to connect to a Bluetooth speaker so you can blast sound more effectively than your TV’s built-in speakers could manage.

Stealth or even louder sound; whichever approach you want, here’s how you do it.

1. Make sure your Bluetooth device is in Pairing mode (this will vary by accessory and may require checking instructions)

2. On your Apple TV 4 (this won’t work on previous generation models), navigate to Settings, choose Remotes and Devices, then select Bluetooth

3. You should see your Bluetooth headphones or speaker listed under Other Devices4. Select the headphones to connect them (you may be prompted to enter a PIN)

5. The headphones will now show up under a My Devices heading

6. Once the Bluetooth headphones are connected, swiping down on the Siri remote during playback brings up audio options that let you toggle between the headphones and the TV speaker

The Fine Print…

Unfortunately, not everything is as straightforward as we’d like it to be and using Bluetooth devices –including Bluetooth headphones– with the Apple TV does come with some potential complications. For one, not all Bluetooth devices are compatible. If you already own a pair of Bluetooth headphones, you have nothing to lose by trying them out, but if you’re considering buying headphones specifically to use with the new Apple TV, I’d suggest Googling first to see if they work with it.

You’ll also want headphones (or a speaker) with their own volume adjustment because the volume buttons on the Apple TV’s Siri remote don’t control the volume on Bluetooth devices.
