Apple will hold its iPhone event on September 12

"Let's meet at our place" is the greeting on Apple's invite to its fall event, which lands on September 12 this year. The presentation will be held in the newly constructed Steve Jobs Theater at Apple's new Cupertino headquarters. The theater was specifically designed to host Apple events, and what better way to christen the new space than with what is expected to be a big iPhone debut.Rumor has it that Apple could debut three new iPhone models at the event: an iPhone 7S, 7S Plus, and the showstopper iPhone 8. Revealing three new iPhone models would already be a departure from the norm, but if rumors are true, the iPhone 8 could be the biggest departure from the traditional iPhone design that we've seen in years. The new handset may have an edge-to-edge OLED display, getting rid of the top and bottom bezels and slimming down the side bezels, and there may be no physical Home button either. The front-facing camera may have facial recognition software that unlocks the handset at the sight of your face, along with an infrared sensor that makes this process easier in low-light conditions.

According to a Bloomberg report, the iPhone 8's screen will be taller than that of the iPhone 7 Plus, and the handset will have a glass and stainless steel construction. The display's corners may also be curved instead of pointed, and, with an OLED panel, that would make the entire front a seamless-looking slate of black. Other rumors indicate a faster processor, a water-resistant design, wireless charging, and an improved rear camera for better photos and enhanced augmented reality features.

In addition to new iPhones, Apple may release a new Apple TV set-top box that can play 4K content. This is part of the company's revamped "living room" strategy as it dives head-first into original content creation, acquisition, and playback. The rumored 4K Apple TV will have a faster processor and the ability to play HDR content as well.

If Apple does announced an updated Apple TV, it will likely come with some content announcements. Apple has reportedly been talking to movie studios about producing and acquiring 4K content for iTunes, which users could play on the new Apple TV. With its $1 billion content initiative for 2018, Apple could announce forthcoming shows shot in 4K that will debut next year on either iTunes or Apple Music. There are rumors that the Apple Watch will make an appearance, too. The company may release a third-generation Apple Watch with standalone LTE connectivity, meaning it could receive updates and alerts without having its paired iPhone nearby. Some rumors suggest a redesigned Apple Watch as well, but it may be too early for an entirely new-looking wearable.

At WWDC in June, Apple showed off its updated software, including iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4, and tvOS 11. All of those updates have been in beta since the conference and are scheduled to be pushed out to the public this fall.
