Moto Keylink lets you track missing keys

Motorola has launched a clever little key fob that can help find a missing phone and minimize the chance of misplacing the door key.

The Keylink can be fitted to a standard keyring. It connects to either an Android or Apple smartphone via Bluetooth once the Motorola Connect app is installed on the handset.

When keys go missing, if they’re within a 100-foot radius the app can show their location on a map. This in itself is not entirely novel; there are a host of Bluetooth-enabled keyrings and tags already on the market that do the same thing, such as the Hippih hipKey.

However, at $24.99, Keylink is not only much cheaper than most likeminded devices out there, it also has two other tricks.

When it’s your phone that you can’t find, pressing the Keylink’s button will make the phone ring. And, if the handset in question is a Motorola Moto X, a Droid Turbo or an Android handset that has received the Android Lollipop update, the Keylink can be used to automatically lock or unlock the phone.

As long as the keys are nearby — i.e., in your pocket or on the desk — there’s no need to type in a passcode or pass pattern every time you want to use your phone.

Available to buy directly from Motorola’s US website, the Keylink runs on a standard coin cell battery that will last a year before needing to be replaced.
