CES 2015: Sony launches world’s thinnest 4K TV

LAS VEGAS: Sony has launched what it claims to be the world's thinnest 4K Ultra HD LED TV, at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

With thickness of just 5mm, the XBR X900C Series TV is even thinner than smartphones such as the iPhone 6 and Sony Xperia Z3. The series features a new floating style and making it Sony's thinnest TVs yet with edge-to-edge viewing.

The TV's screen has a 3840x2160p (4K) resolution, and includes Sony's Triluminos display technology to accurately reproduce shades of red, green and aqua blue, as per Sony.

It will run Google's Android TV operating system, to stream video, function as a gaming device and provide enhanced features like voice-enabled searching through a remote equipped with a microphone. With access to Google Play, consumers can enjoy what they like to do on a smartphone or tablet, from their television.

"With content being sourced from broadcast, Blu-ray, DVDs or even low-resolution internet videos, we designed these televisions to upscale to 4K resolution so that consumers can get the highest level viewing experience possible," said Toshifumi Okuda, Sony Electronics deputy president.
