The Apple Watch is one of the most anticipated technologies in the world, and on Friday morning, an Australian woman became among the first globally to get her hands on the smart watch.
Sydney-based fitness instructor, Melanie Firbank, was thrilled when a knock came at the door at 8.30 a.m. AEST.
The delivery man said she was his first delivery of the day, Firbank told Mashable Australia. "He gave me a hug and a high-five ... he knew what he was delivering."
Firbank had ordered the white Apple Sport Watch in 38mm, and on first impression, she loved it. "It’s just beautiful," she said. "Everything is perfectly white. I got the white Apple Watch, so that looked even more amazing against the packaging. I loved it."
It was also super easy to set up, she added. "It only took a couple of minutes to sync with my phone, and already I haven’t had to do anything. It’s just so seamless," she said. All the apps that were compatible with her iPhone are already there, including Twitter, Flipboard, Uber, Instagram and TripView, among others.
"I get a very little, gentle tap when I get a notification or a text message," she said. "It’s really lovely. Nothing about it is pushy or in-your-face. It’s very sleek, very comfortable."
The only issue she had was trying to get the Watch on. "It was a little tricky to get on the first couple of times I tried by myself … the strap is kind of opposite to the way most watch straps are I’m used to," she said. "Once it was on — I’ve waved my arm around like a lunatic — it doesn’t budge." It also might take a little while to remember which way to swipe for which app, she added.
"I'll be living in this," Firbank told Mashable Australia. "Twenty-four, seven."
How does it feel to be one of the first? "It feels pretty damn awesome."
