Samsung working on Gear A round smartwatch to compete with Apple Watch

Samsung has been at the forefront when it comes to the number of smartwatches being churned out. The company is now believed to be working on a its first smartwatch with a round face. According to SamMobile, who is quite reliable at disclosing information about unannounced Samsung devices, the company is working on a new watch dubbed Gear A with 3G and voice calling.

The new smartwatch that is codenamed Orbis will be available in two variants, according to the report.  You can expect one variant with 3G connectivity and voice calling and the other with Bluetooth for connecting to a smartphone. Both will support Wi-Fi.

The report has also revealed the two main model numbers – SM-R720 and SM-R730. The SM-R730 is likely to be the one with 3G support and the one that Samsung will sell via carriers. “There’s also an SM-R732 for South Korean carriers, though we’re not sure if this one will be any different other than being locked to these particular carriers,” the report adds.

It is highly speculated to run the company’s proprietary Tizen, instead of Android Wear. It is quite obvious that Samsung would bring in its new smartwatch models this month, considering Apple Watch will be made available for pre-order on April 10. Besides, Motorola, known for its round-faced Moto 360, has also been working on new designs and hinting at a new model. LG has also announced a round variant of its smartwatch dubbed G Watch R.
