BlackBerry 10 Gets WhatsApp Voice Calling

WhatsApp voice calling is rolling out to BlackBerry 10 users.
The feature has been available for several months to BlackBerry beta testers, but this latest app update opens it up to everyone.
Voice calling has also rolled out to Android and iOS users, letting them use a Wi-Fi connection to make free VoIP calls to contacts anywhere in the world.
As reported by TechTimes, the new BlackBerry app also comes with improvements and added features, like the ability to search for messages, chats, and contacts with a single tap, share location in a larger map, and new font and highlighting settings.
Just got a message from a long-lost friend? Add their contact details to your list directly from the chat or group info screen. You can also set custom ringtones for WhatsApp calls by visiting the Settings page.
For more organized WhatsApp users, the BlackBerry app makes it easy to create WhatsApp-specific subdirectories for audio and video files. The updated version also includes better support and navigation for BlackBerry Classic owners using WhatsApp, TechTimes said.
To make a call on the BB10 platform, open the Calls tab, click the icon at the top of the screen, and choose a contact, then chat as normal; conversations are logged in the app for later reference.
WhatsApp users can also send voice messages to contacts—just press and hold the microphone icon above the keyboard. But the voicemail-like feature is overshadowed by new voice calling, which puts WhatsApp in competition with VoIP apps like Skype and Viber.
The app maker initially announced plans for voice calling more than a year ago at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but didn't roll out until last month.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp also recently introduced a Web client for in-browser chatting, compatible only with Android, BlackBerry, BlackBerry 10, and Windows Phone versions of the app.
