WhatsApp gets new design, now at home in Android Lollipop Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/technology/story/whatsapp-gets-new-design-now-at-home-in-android-lollipop/1/437597.html

The world's favourite instant messaging app has a new design. On version 2.12.79 the app sports a new user interface that is completely flat and colourful, following the exactly same guidelines that Google introduced with the "material design" in Android Lollipop.

The new design integrates so well with the stock Android user interface in Lollipop that the app looks like a system app, similar to the Contacts or Dialler app created by Google.

Along with the more colourful design -- it uses dark green layers -- the new design also changes a few elements within WhatsApp. The drawer where smileys are stored now has a white background instead of black.

Similarly, the profile page for each contact within WhatsApp now displays a bigger image that stretches from left to right edge. This is similar to how profile images are displayed within the default Dialler app in the Android Lollipop. WhatsApp has also introduced an animation of sort when a user goes back to chat window from contact's profile page.

Overall, the new WhatsApp design is fairly cool looking. Earlier the app looked drab but now it is more colourful and slicker.

To get the new design you can update the app now. Though it is possible that WhatsApp may roll it out to users in a phased manner. Or you can also download the .apk from its official website.
