These Sony Xperia handsets getting Android M soon

For all other Android users, you've got a wait in store. That's because each release of the operating system has to be tailored for each manufacturer, mostly because the vast majority include their own skins or features on top of what Google offers. In some cases, this can mean many months of waiting, but that hopefully won't be the case for those with Sony Mobile smartphones.

The company has confirmed the list of handsets which are set to get the Android M update:

Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4.

It's great to see the company supporting some older handsets, and we've heard the Xperia Z1 might also be included at some point. There's no official word on when the update will happen, but hopefully well before the end of the year.

In addition, tablets like the Z4, Z3 and Z2 will be supported.
