Redmond giant Microsoft has made Cortana -- it's personal voice assistant -- available for Android and iOS platforms. Cortana is now rolling out to select Android and iOS devices in the US and China. Microsoft's voice assistant which is equivalent to Apple's Siri and Google's Now will also be available on Cyanogen Mod OS powered OnePlus One in the days to come.
"The Cortana app is available in the U.S. and China for iPhones on iOS8 and up and Android 4.1.2. And will be available in the U.S. on One Plus One powered by Cyanogen OS with the 12.1.1 over-the-air update later in Dec," the company announced.
The Cortana app can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple's iTunes store.
Notably, Microsoft had announced back in May that it would be extending the capabilities of Cortana so it becomes available a across devices, regardless of users' device of choice. It has delivered its promise nearly 6 months thereafter.
"While the Cortana app is fully-featured, there are some things Cortana can do on Windows phones that aren't currently possible with iOS or Android. This includes toggling settings or opening apps, and the ability to invoke Cortana hands-free by saying "Hey Cortana." The 'Phone Companion' app on your Windows 10 PC will help you install the Cortana app from the Google Play or Apple App Store onto your phone so you'll be able to take the intelligence of Cortana with you, wherever you go," explained Microsoft.
Meanwhile, OnePlus One users will be able to "ask Cortana to toggle network modes, power down your phone, and turn on Quiet Mode amongst other features by saying 'Hey Corrina'. The availability will be extended to other Cyanogen powered devices in the future.
