Sony is doubling the number of free PlayStation 4 games available to PlayStation Plus members in order to celebrate the impending fourth anniversary of the online service.
Starting this month, PS Plus subscribers will be entitled to two free games a month for all three of its supported consoles: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.
The length of time each title is available will also be adjusted: from July, every title in the Instant Game Collection will be available from the first Thursday of the month until the first Thursday of the following month.
The games coming to PlayStation 4 tomorrow are: Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate and co-op puzzle-platformer Trine 2: The Complete Story, while the PlayStation 3 is getting NBA 2K14 and psychological survival horror Lone Survivor (Director’s Cut), and Dragon’s Crown and block matching puzzle game Surge Deluxe are coming to the Vita.
In related news, at a corporate strategy meeting earlier this month, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai claimed that half of all PlayStation 4 owners have subscribed to PlayStation Plus.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced that this month’s Games With Gold offerings for Xbox One (Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault) are available now. Deals With Gold – a discount service for Xbox Live Gold members – has also launched.
In addition, the company confirmed June’s Xbox 360 Games With Gold dates: Dark Souls will be free on Games With Gold from June 1 until June 15, while beat-‘em-ups Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will be free from June 16 to June 30.
Last month Microsoft announced that Games With Gold on Xbox One will function just like PlayStation Plus does on PlayStation platforms. That is, several games will be offered for download each month, and they will only be accessible while the user has an Xbox Live Gold membership.
On Xbox 360, Games With Gold will continue to offer games that are able to be kept after the user’s Gold membership expires.
