HOW TO USE FACEBOOK ON IPAD
Facebook is the biggest social media website in the world, with more than one billion active users and counting.
Arguably, Facebook for iPad is the best way to access the site. The app has a wonderful design and layout, enabling you to quickly read the latest posts, chat to friends and view photos with just a few swipes of your finger. The app also supports Facebook chat, so you can talk to friends, family and colleagues for free and in real-time.
1. Get started
Download the Facebook app from the App Store. After installation and you’ll be asked to log into your account. If you don’t already have one, tap the Register button. Once logged in, you’ll see the news feed in the centre of the page. Swipe your finger from left to right to reveal the side bar.
2. The side bar
At the top of the Sidebar is a shortcut to your profile page, below are links to your messages, friends, nearby, events, photos and more. Above the news feed are shortcuts to notifications, messages and friend requests. These will be highlighted with a red circle if any new messages, notifications or requests have been made.
3. Live chat
Any available friends with chat capability will appear in the right-hand side-bar while viewing the News Feed. A green button will indicate they’re online and available. After tapping on an available friend a chat bubble window will appear from the side of the screen.
4. Attaching files in chat
While chatting to friends, you can attach photos, audio or take a photo using the iPads camera. To do this, just tap the attachment icon above the keyboard.
5. Closing chat bubbles
Chat bubbles are always stuck to the right side of the screen. To clear them, tap and hold your finger on the round bubble. You’ll see a red cross in a white circle appear at the bottom of the screen. Drag the chat bubble onto it using your finger and the chat bubble will vanish.
6. Add a friend
To add a new Facebook friend, tap the search button at the top of the side bar. Next, enter the friends name into the search field and you’ll see results appear in real-time. Results are organized by relevance, so anyone with a mutual friend will appear at the top, as will celebrities and groups with similar a name.
7. Unfriend
If you no longer wish to keep in touch with a friend via Facebook, then it’s easy to Unfriend them. Simply search for them, visit their Facebook page then tap the Friends button. Next, tap the Unfriend button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
8. Share photos and videos
It’s easy to upload photos to Facebook on iPad. From your profile page, tap the Photo button beneath your main profile image. You can now choose to upload a photo or video from your iPad’s library, or take a new photo or video. You can also add a comment and tag the photo/video’s location.
