Do rich people really not have anything better to spend their money on?
Never mind a white one, or one with a game logo on it, if you want a truly limited edition console how about a 9kt gold one?
The (very) limited edition consoles were shown off at Games14, the biggest video game convention in the Middle East. They’re made by Italian jeweller Gatti and cost a cool Dh49,999 (£8,390).
You can only get them from Jumbo Electronics in Dubai, although we’re sure they’ll be happy to charge you a suitably inflated fee for postage and packaging.
They make the point of insisting that these consoles aren’t gold plated, buta are actually solid gold. The designs are also apparently inspired by Tetris, which seems a bit random considering the game isn’t on either format yet.
The controllers aren’t solid gold but they do seem to have at least gold-coloured elements.
‘Available to both Xbox and PS4 fans, the high-end materials and exquisite detailing of the gold consoles make it a great collectible item for gamers who love luxury,’ said Jumbo Electronics’ Nadeem Khanzadah to website Emirates 24|7.
Diamond-encrusted smartphones are actually a relatively common thing if you’re super rich, and super keen to advertise the fact.
Although considering how annoying the PlayStation 4 controller’s light bar is, shining onto the TV, a solid gold console has got to be at least as distracting.
