Indie country music star rides high in iTunes charts

INDEPENDENT singer-songwriter Mick Lindsay has hit number three in the Australian country music iTune charts, right next to Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts, with his self-titled debut album.

The rising star was born and raised in Toowoomba and said he was introduced to guitar and singing during a carpentry apprenticeship with a local builder.

"The Toowoomba pub scene was the apprenticeship I needed to move where I wanted, with a lot of people (sometimes secretly) loving country music and without it I honestly don't know where I'd be now," Mr Lindsay said.

He couldn't believe the debut album was finally here.

"After a few thousand gigs, a relentless touring schedule, which included many song-writing trips to Nashville, the death of a few dozen harmonicas, four guitars and a few vehicles - it all led up to these 12 songs," he said.

"From the fusion between banjo and a screaming Les Paul being played together, to acoustic guitars and harmonica and even the occasional cowbell, this album was a lot of fun to create."

The singer headlined the 20th annual Julia Creek Dirt and Dust Festival in April, which attracts more than 4000 visitors each year, and is set to play at the Birdsville Races in September.
