After the surprising partnership announced at the BUILD 2014, Micromax has finally launched jumped on to the Windows Phone brigade with two new devices – Canvas Win W121 priced at Rs 9,500 and Canvas Win W092 at Rs 6,500.
Considering the Rs 9,500 price tag and Windows 8.1 OS, the Win W121 is all set to compete with the recently launched Lumia 630 (See our Lumia 630 Dual SIM review). So, we’ve put both devices in the ring to jot down a quick comparison of their key specs.
Display
The Lumia 630 sports a 4.5-inch IPS display with 480 x 854 pixels of resolution, and pixel density that goes up to 218ppi. The display also gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 along with ClearBlack display technology. The Micromax Canvas Win W121 follows the ‘phablet’ trend and comes with a slightly larger 5-inch IPS display. It gets 720 x 1280 pixels of resolution. This means, a better display quality compared to the Lumia 630 with 294 ppi pixel density. However, there is no word on any kind of scratch-resistant to protect its display.
The Canvas Win W121 has decent specs for the price
Camera
The Canvas Win W121 comes equipped with an8MP rear snapper with LED flash and also a front-facing 2MP front-camera for selfies and video conferencing. The Lumia 630 hi9ghly disappoints with a 5Mp rear shooter with auto-focus but no flash. Selfie lovers should know, there is no front camera too.
Processor
The Lumia 630 comes powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. So, one can expect better processing speed than the Canvas Win 121 that comes with a comparatively mediocre 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200. However, the Lumia 630 gets only 512MB RAM, which could hamper your app experience, while the Win W121 comes with 1GB RAM.
A worthy successor to the 525

Miscellaneous specs
Both devices come with a similar set of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 4.0. While both get Dual-SIM capabilities and 8GB onboard storage, the Win W121 lets you expand it further up to 32GB via microSD card slot. The Lumia 630 is fuelled by a Li-ion 1830mAh battery and the Win W121 comes equipped with an 1800mAh battery. Nokia has thrown in a bunch of free goodies with the Lumia 630. Vodafone users will get free 1GB 3G data for two months, a two month subscription to Box TV and Flipkart e-books worth Rs 2,000. However, one shouldn’t expect its popular apps like the Nokia ProCam and MixRadio, which are limited to only superior Lumia devices.
The bottom line
The Lumia 630 is a good looking device and appears to be a well built with scratch-resistance ability compared to the Canvas Win 121. However, specs-wise, the Win W121 is better positioned, we must say. One of the crucial deciding factors is the pricing and Micromax has aggressively priced the Win W121 at Rs 9,500. Compared to the sub-Rs 10,000 pricing by Micromax, Lumia 630 appears to be on the expensive side, priced at Rs 11,000, but it does have a few software advantages.
