Google Wallet Now Supports Gift Cards

Google Wallet has introduced a helpful new option for gift card users, allowing them to load the card's balance directly to their phones. The new gift card support is part of a series of upgrades Google recently put into the Wallet app, giving people even more mobile payment options than before.

To use the gift card feature, you can simply take a picture of a gift card or type in its information. You may have to scratch off the security strip on the back of the card to display the gift card number. Once the app has this information, it will load the balance into your Wallet account, allowing you to leave the gift card at home.

Merchants like AMC, Best Buy and Whole Foods show the remaining balances for their gift cards on the Wallet app. Some of these take a little time to update, but most update in real time.

Other exciting new additions to Google Wallet include the ability to send money through Gmail or ask for money from other Gmail users. The new version of Google Wallet also offers a Spanish language option.

The new features are currently only available in the United States, but they will be expanded in the future.
