Xbox One wireless controller adapter will only work with Windows 10

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, which will allow an Xbox One controller to work on a Windows computer, will only support Windows 10, Microsoft confirmed to Polygon today.

The adapter will be released this fall for $24.99 and requires an USB 2.0 or 3.0 connection to work and, according to a representative we spoke with today, Windows 10.

Windows 10 is a free upgrade for those running a PC with Windows 7 or 8.1. It hits July 29.

The adapter will let you "enjoy the freedom and convenience of the wireless controller on Windows 10 PCs, laptops, and tablets." Once connected, the controller will support in-game chat and stereo audio.

News of the wireless adapter's release date and price was announced this morning by Microsoft, along with confirmation of a new 1TB Xbox One.
