Moto 360 Gets Android Wear 5.1.1 Lollipop; What's New?

The Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch is about to get the new Android Wear 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
Android Origin reported that the first new update includes the app launcher, which can be started by tapping the screen or holding the button on the smartwatch. There are several new apps in the list such as compatible apps that are already installed on the user’s phone like the clock. Users can scroll on the new app launcher to present their contact list. Clicking on a contact will let the user send a text or draw an emoji, Android Pit reported.
Wayne Piekarski, Google’s Developer Advocate, announced that the Android 5.1.1 will roll out to all Moto 360 users via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Some Android Wear devices already received the new update although Motorola reported that there were still a number of performance issues that led to the delay. Motorola was able to fix the issues, so Moto 360 users should get the new OS with fewer problems. Being an OTA rollout means that users will get the Android Wear 5.1.1 in phases. Users can also check manually in Settings if they do not find the notification on their screen after several days, based on a report by Tech Times. The new update is set to bring Always-on apps, media browsing and gesture support for UI navigation, among others.
There will also be a new notifications screen with the new Android Wear 5.1.1 Lollipop update. Users can swipe down from the top of their device to present all notifications in a line. The notifications will be arranged accordingly, compared to the previous version which merely grouped all these together. Users can swipe across the top of the Moto 360 to go to Cinema Mode or to enable brightness adjustment. A new section for the settings menu is now available, allowing users to switch the watch face via Settings. Users can flick their wrist to scroll through the notifications. Various wrist gestures will also activate different functions, based on the same report by Android Origins.
The Wi-Fi settings were also enhanced, allowing notifications on the Moto 360, even if the user is outside the Bluetooth range of their Android phone. There is a new screen lock option. If the Moto 360 is not on the user’s wrist and has not been used for a while, an unlock pattern will be required to access the watch.
