Skype readies a Fire Phone app that uses Dynamic Perspective for its icon and notification badge

Skype today confirmed it’s working on a new app for Amazon’s soon to be released Fire Phone. The move isn’t surprising, given cross-platform support is a requirement for all messaging apps, but it’s a notable addition for the smartphone nonetheless.

skype for android fire Skype readies a Fire Phone app that uses Dynamic Perspective for its icon and notification badgeTo be clear, this isn’t the Skype for Android app, or the app already available for Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD and HDX tablets. The new Fire Phone app will take advantage of the handset’s unique home screen, with a drop-down widget that shows recent conversations, contacts and notifications. Just swipe horizontally until you see the Skype app in the Carousel, and the widget should appear automatically.

The company says its new app will also have a user experience  “consistent with the Fire Phone look and feel.” The icon and notification badge, meanwhile, will use ‘Dynamic Perspective’ – Amazon’s unique camera setup that makes on-screen content appear 3D – which should be a nice gimmick and “wow” moment for new handset owners, if nothing else.

Skype says the app will come “pre-entitled” on the Fire Phone, which I assume means pre-installed. Otherwise, I have no idea what they’re talking about.
