PUNE, AUG 6: Cell-phone maker Motorola, which re-entered the Indian market this year with a range of smartphones, has said it will launch its new smartwatch in the country later this year.
“The Moto360 is the world’s first round smartwatch, and we will launch it in India this year,” Amit Boni, General Manager, Motorola Mobility, India said. Built on the Android platform, the watch is yet to be launched globally.
In India, where it has an exclusive partnership with e-commerce firm Flipkart, the company currently offers three of five smartphones it has in its global portfolio. “In India we have sold over a million units since launch in February,” he said, adding that the initiative helped cut costs between Rs 3,000-5,000 on each piece.
Following the success with e-tailing in India, Motorola replicated the model in Indonesia a month-and-a-half ago.
A couple of days ago Motorola was ranked the fourth largest seller of smartphones in India. “We want to be a dominant player in India,” Boni said.
