Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop is officially released, many Samsung smartphone owners are wondering when and if they'll receive the update. Here are the smartphones that are expected to definitely get a taste of Lollipop.
With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google has released the most significant update to Android since the company shipped Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. Lollipop introduces an updated UI called Material Design, which adopts the look of Google Now and features a layered flat interface that Google describes as a take on stacks of paper. It creates a sense of depth and an overall cleaner look to Android.
Android 5.0 Lollipop is currently shipping on Google's latest flagship Nexus devices; the HTC built Nexus 9 tablet and Motorola Nexus 6 phablet. Smartphone manufacturers have started to announce which of their devices will receive an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop and most recently we reported that Motorola created a website to inform customers which smartphones are slated to receive a Lollipop update.
Samsung has yet to formally announce its Android 5.0 Lollipop update schedule but a few sources have leaked details on which Samsung phablets and smartphones will get an update to Android 5.0.
SamMobile posted a video of the Samsung Galaxy S5 running an updated version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, with its build number listed as LRX02E. The website also claims that its sources say that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will get an update to Lollipop. The Galaxy S5 is expected to get Android 5.0 Lollipop in December and the Galaxy S4 will reportedly receive the update in early 2015.
Samsung recently hinted that Android 5.0 Lollipop would be making its way to its new flagship Galaxy Note 4 phablet. The tweet seems to imply that Note 4 owners will likely be the first to get a taste of Lollipop, some reports claim it will be released in late November or in December. The upcoming Galaxy Note Edge, which will be released by AT&T on Nov. 7 and Sprint and T-Mobile on Nov. 14 is also going to get the freshest version of Android. Galaxy Note 3 owners should expect to receive Android 5.0 in early 2015.
